Now back in the Aterra shop again in Helsingborg, full of surfski inspiration. We have had some fantastic weeks here all of us four swedes that visited Las Palmas. Hard training sessions in the marina combined with extraordinary downwinds and some wave playing. The east coast here is like it was made for surfskiing, that’s a fact for sure.
The reef, a place when we are closest to land. Messy waves that rocks you around a bit, spectacular waves when the swell hits the reef.
This week the wind was 8 to 10 ms. Some day 7 ms. One of the days a storm came in with winds around 17 ms, the locals said that it was the worst weather they have seen in there lives. For a skåning, it was not so unusual weather ;). The swell can be big also when its less wind as it depends on other weather system than local wind. When it was around 8-10 ms, we surfed in swell that were 3-4 boat lengths and 6 meter high (according to the locals). The swell comes angled in to the shore and the windwaves makes it possible to surf away from the shore. The tracks is very technical and you really learn what surfskiing is about.
Temperature is normally around 22 degrees, and the water temp 20. Pretty nice for a northern guy.
In feb march, when we start the project with courses down there for real, we can offer participants everything from beginner skis to advanced elite skis. We can offer a big fleet that can satisfy everyone. Read more in the next blog entry.
Thanks to Eva, Henrik and Marcus for good company. A big thanks to Sara, Antonio and Esteban for taking care of us out in the sea and on land. Thanks also to the other paddlers that we had the benefit to surf with.
