Some nice shots from the second last day in Baleal/Peniche outside Brunos. A bit windy and messy waves but a great fun evening. Pretty big age span this day with surfkayakers from 20 to 64 years.

Vad skall du ha på fötterna när du paddlar? Neoprenskor så klart tänker de flesta, andra tänker sandaler typ Chaco eller Teva. Efter 6 månaders testande är jag övertygad. Du skall ha en sko med bra sula som ger dig grepp när det är halt och som du även kan gå med längre sträckor. Du skall ha en sko där du inte ideligen får in småsten under hålfoten. Du skall ha en sko som ger dig en mer ”torr” känsla.
Du skall helt enkelt ha en modern paddelsko och de ser inte riktigt ut som vi är vana vid. Många av tillverkarna har idag tagit fram vettigare alternativ för paddling än den gamla neoprenskon. Jodå jag använder neoskor jag med, en med tunn sula så jag har bra känsla på rodret när jag paddlar surfski (NRS Freestyle). Men annars använder jag uteslutande Astral Loyak och Astral Hiyak (när det är lite kallare) och när jag paddlar fors och det är riktigt kallt kör jag med Palm Gradient.‘
Fördelar med en modern paddelsko, du har en riktig sko på foten med bra stöd. Du har en sula som är framtagen för att vara säker även på hala stenar. Du minimerar risken att halka när du går i och ur. En sko att gå eller vandra i. Du får en torrare känsla jämfört med neopren. Skorna torkar mycket snabbare. Och till sist, du kan använda den till annat än paddling, tex. Loyak är en superskön streetsko med barfotakänsla tack vare den låga hälen (gäller även Hiyak).

Nice to be back at Klittmöller, it was two years ago since i was there last time. The symposium are a fantastic and welcomming event. Very well organised, great food and a lot of dannish ”hygge”. And to that you add nice waves, and happy wave people, could only be perfect! Saturday we were in Hanstholm, and we who was a bit more experienced got the world champion Chris Hobson as a instructor. Really great for me as it was 8 months since i was in a surfkayak. We were so many surfkayakers so we used a long part of the Hanstholm beach. The seakayakers used a spot 3-4 kilometers away.
On sunday it was time for Dannish Open Surfkayak Championship. Over 30 competitors! Impressing to see whats happened in Denmark the last years, many fantastic surfkayakers. My first heat was so so, the next heat I had some really nice waves and won and come to the quarter final. Next heat i didnt find the right waves but i made it to the semi. The waves now was not very good and i was meeting three dannish top guys, this was a tough heat to take a win or a second in. Well i was pretty happy about to be in the semi and with a bit of luck i could have been in the final. Well next time maybe ;). It was nice to compete with David T and Jakob M, they are really good kayaksurfers.
Surfers from five countries did come to the event, unfourtunately only two from Sweden, me and Ulrika Lindblom. Hope we can be some more from here next year and that some sweddish kayakers can let go of their ”fikabrod” and have some fun in the waves instead. Its a bit to drive but i tell you its worth it!

Around 70-80 participants with seakayaks and surfkayaks was enjoying the event.
Now its autumn and full focus on kayaksurfing, for me its the best part of the kayakyear. Next stop will be in Peniche where we go and do courses 9-13 oct. and a exciting surf tour 14-18 oct.
On the symposium many people asked about Peniche and the courses we arrange two sessions down there every year one in october and one around easter. A great surfer and a nice guy to hang out with in the evening. We still have places left for the first week on our courses. Join in it will be something special!

I morse landade jag i ett soligt Lissabon och några timmar senare satt jag i min Watertech ONA i ett förhållandevis rörigt hav. Trött efter en tidig morgon men kul att komma igång redan idag. Tyvärr för mycket vind idag så det var en del kaos i vågsystemen. Men kul hade både jag och Mattias.

Yesterday we had a storm here, the rest of the storm Joaqim should enter Portugal. Well for a south swede it wasnt much of a storm more like a breeze. The waves was messy and we have one man down with a bad shoulder so we decided to take a excursion to some other spots. This coast is fantastic and yesterday the waves was big around 4-6 m.
We ended up in Santa Cruze for a nice meal. Cool restaurant and fantastic food and as allways here nice prices. Back home me and Mattias went out to Lagide for some nice clean waves. I had the Watertech Fly today, not used to the boat so i was a bit coward. Sometimes a 1,5 m wave feels big… Well i had some nice runs and Mattias enjoyd the waveparty, he could play nearly alone as most of the boardsurfers was on the wrong position to take the waves. The day ended at another nice restaurant Tribeca with all the other guests from Captans Log House. If you go to Peniche this is the place to be for sure the staff gives you an enjoyable stay, nice to meet new friendly people here every time we are here. Pretty luxurious day yesterday, today back to normal stage i guess… meaning hard work in the waves ;)

Now back home in Sweden…
This sunday put my bum in the ONA for the last time here in Peniche. We are in the middle of the Baleal bay. The waves are small for the first time this journey, 40-90 cm and that feels ok. Get som water under my kayak and starts paddling out. Meet some small foam and paddle further out, i feel so tired in every muscle. I jump over a wave that just shall brake and land flat hard. My body screams of the pain for this little wave. Every ligament is stretched to its maximum and all my muscles are completely finnished after ten days of fantastic waves. Some more strokes and i get out to the line up, surf the small waves together with Eric, the others have left. Its painfull and i just take waves that i can drop in to, no adrenalin helps me and i wonder why i dont just go back to the beach.
A rain comes in and create a fantastic view with a small rainbow so close to us that we nearly can touch it. All the surfers stop for a while and look at this perfect image. The Baleal peninsula creates a amasing fond in the background to this scenery. Suddenly a bigger swell comes in and i manage to get three bigger waves and i can end this trip with a big smile in my hart.
We have had some days with to much wind, but the wind droped in the afternoon so even those days we got nice surfs. Three evenings have we surfed in the beautiful sunset. In all, eleven days surf, maybe to much but its so hard to take a day of when others go out, next time i have to do that… i think ;)…

Lite nya prylar har dykt upp i webshopen. Klassiska Kokatat Expedition var ett självklart val när vi nu börjar sälja Kokatat. En annan nyhet är Kokatat Hydrus Swift. Vi har länge letat efter en torrdräkt för surfskipaddlaren och vi har inte velat sälja en dräkt som inte har en skarp synlig färg och inte har en säker halsöppning. Surfskipaddlaren utsätter sig för ganska stora risker där ute på havet och det krävs rätt utrustning för att bibehålla säkerheten. Hydrus finns i en klar orange färg och både dam och herrdräkt har blixtlås för att enkelt kunna lätta på trycket. Kokatat har livstids garanti.
